Poetic Metaphors: Creativity and Interpretation
What is it about?
This project studies the production and processing of metaphors in contemporary poetry written in English. It draws primarily on Conceptual Metaphor Theory (Lakoff & Johnson 1980) to explore how readers interpret poetry, how they talk about the authors' intentions in writing a poem and how they talk about their emotional engagements in reading poetic narratives. Additionally, the monograph explores how poets talk about the meanings and functions of metaphors in poetry. The book then compares the poets' and the readers' perspectives to discuss where their reflections overlap / differ.
