Study of who translated Korean literature into English after the Korean War.

What is it about?

Research on Korean literature translated between 1950 and 1975 showed that the ideal of a translation done by a near bilingual speaker directly from Korean into their native tongue did not represent the reality of translation. This article sketches that reality.

Why is it important?

Non-standard translation practices (L2 translation, indirect translation and team translation) are part of the reality of most minor literatures, and this article helps exposing that reality.
