Why is it important?

The two authors started from a question about why there can be multiple interpretations of a single original source. After a review of such examples and a review of representative interpreting models the authors then introduce Sense-making Theory by Shigenori Tanaka and Masahiro Fukaya in order to apply it to actual interpreting scenes. This theory focuses on the mechanism of sense-making, which takes place as internal process by relative positioning of memories in the context of situation, every time humans have communication including interpreting act.
