Aspect in child L2 English

What is it about?

Japanese child returnees were tested on their knowledge of aspect in L2 English. Specifically, we focus on the progressive aspectual form -ing (e.g., Mary is walking) and the present verb form (e.g., Mary walks) with the four basic verb classes (Vendler, 1967), i.e., activity, accomplishment, state, and achievement.

Why is it important?

This is the first longitudinal study to look into judgements about aspect by child returnees.
