On the source of HAVE-progressives in Persian

What is it about?

This paper examines the source of newly formed HAVE-progressive constructions in Persian and suggests that contrary to some previous studies, these constructions have not been borrowed from Mazandarani, a Caspian dialect spoken in north of Iran.

Why is it important?

Persian, to the best of our knowledge, is unique in using possessive have in its newly formed progressive constructions. It is interesting to see how these constructions have developed in the language.
