What is it about?

a discourse-analysis based exploration of parliamentary dialogue in the Bahraini Parliament to understand identity formation in political and sectarian context.

Why is it important?

The first discourse analysis book on Bahrain's political dialogue, examining a special case, when religious parties dominated the parliament in Bahrain, reflecting the sectarian division in the country. The book features the period just before the unrest taking place during what was misnamed as 'the Arab Spring', a wave that affected Bahrain too but in a different way. This makes the book an exploration of the pre-existing conditions of the unrest period in the country.
