Analytic approaches to political text analysis: Linguistic, Discourse and Content approaches

What is it about?

This collection of articles on the state of the art of political text analysis discusses the flaws and benefits of various types of political text analysis, across disciplines. Both qualitative and quantitative methods are described. It presents cases of computational linguistics as well as content analysis and their combinations as applied, for example, in methods for party positioning. Chapters on 'converging methods' indicate how various approaches can complement each other to describe the relationship between words, images and ideologies. It also discusses the challenges of transdisciplinary research and practice.

Why is it important?

There appears to be a gap between social/political science and language studies. This volume tries to reveal the possibilities and benefits of using each other's methodologies and provides examples of such cross-disciplinary collaborations.
