What Sways the Translator

What is it about?

Sway as bias vs. sway as norms: two diametrically opposed ways of talking about the same phenomena. "Virgin" for "almah" in Isaiah 7:14 is normative (and therefore correct) for Christians but a biased mistranslation for non-Christians: it all depends on your point of view.

Why is it important?

The book is a rather disproportionate study of two works, a 2008 article by Lawrence Venuti (five chapters) and a 2006 book by Mona Baker (the last chapter).
