Second language acquisition among bilinguals.

What is it about?

Acquisition of an additional language is an important issue in multilingual societies. Certain aspects of any ambient language can be transferred to L2 (or L3) depending on how close languages are in their typology, how proficient an individual is in L1, as well as how an individual is exposed and taught L2.

Why is it important?

This topic is very important for a multiple reasons: It gives us an idea of which linguistic features are more likely to be transferred; it allows to identify the best possible strategies for teaching L2 and helping students to reach L2 proficiency for academic success; It shows the importance of L2 proficiency in social context.
