Self-confidence and its role in translator training: The students’ perspective

What is it about?

This paper focuses on the perception of translation students of the role that their self-confidence plays in translator education, especially on the attention given to their self-confidence, on the agents and factors influencing their self-confidence and on the effects that it can have. Group interviews are used.

Why is it important?

This is the first study in translation that clearly defined self-confidence and distinguishes it from other related constructs, such as self-efficacy. It uses group interviews, instead of the traditional quantitative approach to deeply understand the role of self-confidence in translator training, according to the students.
