What is it about?
The reaction between 2-amino-6-nitrobenzothiazole and sulfosalicylic acid produces an organic salt. The cation is formed when 2-amino-6-nitrobenzothiazole is protonated at the intracyclic nitrogen, while the anion is formed when sulfosalicylic acid loses a hydrogen atom from its sulfonic acid group.
Why is it important?
The organic salt formed from two pharmacophores can be considered a hybrid molecule, exhibiting the antimicrobial activity of each pharmacophore individually.
