Tinnitus and Factors Linked to Greater Discomfort in Adults in Bogotá, Colombia

What is it about?

Tinnitus is experienced differently from one person to another, and the level of discomfort it causes can vary considerably. We analyzed information from 763 adults with tinnitus evaluated at an audiology center in Bogotá, Colombia, to describe their clinical and demographic characteristics and explore which factors were associated with greater discomfort. The findings showed differences in tinnitus-related discomfort according to factors such as sex, previous tinnitus treatment, estimated noise exposure, stress, neurological history, and psychological history, providing a broader view of how tinnitus is experienced in clinical practice.

Why is it important?

Tinnitus is poorly characterized in Colombia. This study provides evidence from a large clinical sample and identifies patient factors associated with greater discomfort, helping improve understanding of tinnitus and inform clinical evaluation.
