What is it about?

This study mapped hearing tests that assess central auditory function—that is, how the ears communicate with the brain—to investigate whether these tests can help identify early signs of cognitive decline and dementia. The results showed that dichotic tests (in which different sounds are presented to both ears simultaneously), especially the Dichotic Digits Test (DDT) and the Dichotic Sentence Identification (DSI), were the most frequently used and showed an association with early cognitive changes.
