Being linguistically sensitive to how autistic teens and young adults repeat and produce sentences
What is it about?
Grammar is an important part of both language variation and language impairment in autism, but how do they fit together? This paper examines grammatical production in two language tasks using linguistically sensitive methods.
Why is it important?
We examine sentence repetition and sentence production in diverse autistic teens and adults and consider possible language variation. This is important for accurate language assessment. Two main findings are that: a) when considering effects of language variation, language scores did not differ and b) only language impairment status predicted scores.
