Using telehealth to provide postdischarge dysphagia care: A pilot trial in Singapore

Patients and caregivers often experience care issues at home after hospital discharge. This paper describes a telehealth service model designed to support them in carrying out dysphagia care at home during the first month after hospital discharge. It also reports on the findings of a pilot trial, including patient and service outcomes, preliminary costs, and user satisfaction.
Why is it important?
Our findings show that the piloted postdischarge dysphagia telehealth service is feasible and useful in supporting patients and caregivers during the first month after hospital discharge. It facilitates early identification and management of patient safety. This service is also well-accepted by patients and caregivers. Wider implementation of this service model should be considered.
