User Perspectives on Improving Hearing Aids
What is it about?
Hearing aids are the most frequently used evidence-based intervention for hearing loss. Despite this, many individuals who need them don't use them. This research study explored hearing aid user perspectives on how to improve devices, to better suit individual needs.
Why is it important?
The focus of contemporary hearing aid research and policy has largely been twofold: improving device technology and accessibility. These goals are being actively promoted by technological advances and the FDAs ruling on over-the-counter hearing aids in the United States. The findings from this study highlight that even with enhanced technology and accessibility, hearing aid consumers still seek solutions for issues surrounding user autonomy, credible hearing health care professional advice and technical and sound quality issues. In an age of hearing health care transition, led by modern technology and consumer awareness, it remains imperative to evaluate the success of intervention by consulting the consumer on whether their needs are being fulfilled.
