Assessment of auditory verbal memory in preschool children (10 WT-K).

What is it about?

This paper presents a novel auditory verbal learning test for 4- and 5-year-old children within the Dutch population (10WT-K). Considering the lower attention span and limited executive functioning in young children, the word list of this new instrument is reduced to 10 words. We also developed a second recognition form to improve the ability to distinguish between possible underlying learning and memory deficits.

Why is it important?

As language development in young children is closely related to other cognitive processes such as auditory verbal learning and memory, the 10WT-K can be a helpful tool in the diagnosis and rehabilitation of language disorders in this population.
