Priming of Two Language Structures in Spanish-Speaking Children
What is it about?
We examined whether Spanish-speaking children showed increased production of two different language structures, direct objects and prepositional phrases, following exposure to these structures. Our results showed that children produced prepositional phrases more frequently when primed to produce them. We did not find this effect for direct objects.
Why is it important?
These findings add to knowledge of how we may facilitate increased use of language structures in children. It is important to gain a cross-linguistic perspective on this, as languages have different grammatical properties and may differ in the structures on which children show difficulty.
