Remote Rehabilitation for unilateral deaf Children with Cochlear Implant
What is it about?
This paper addresses an important and underinvestigated topic: The utility of auditory (re)habilitation in children with Single Sided Deafness. These children can perfectly hear from one side, while they are hard-of-hearing on the other one. When the hearing is restored by a Cochlear Implant, they need rehabilitation to fully appreciate the help from this high technology device.
Why is it important?
The COVID-19 pandemic presented an opportunity to pursue tele-intervention strategies, that were used in this study specifically for a peculiar pediatric population, that has not been that well investigated in the present literature. The research presented both an assessment tool and a rehabilitation program meant to be completed by children and their families independently at home using a streaming device.
