Aural Rehabilitation Recommendations for Adults with Hearing Loss
What is it about?
The clinical practice guideline investigated seven clinical questions encompassing various types of aural rehabilitation including informational counseling, personal adjustment counseling, and perceptual training as well as how these treatments were delivered. It includes a detailed summary of the evidence for each question and provides recommendations and key practice points to support the delivery of aural rehabilitation treatment to adults with hearing loss within a person-centered framework.
Why is it important?
Hearing loss is the third most common chronic condition and affects more than 20% of the world’s population. There are many known side effects of hearing loss including depression, social isolation, and cognitive decline which are damaging and costly, especially when left untreated. In most cases, there is no medical treatment for hearing loss. However, treatment with aural rehabilitation can reduce the impact of the hearing loss and improve quality of life.
