Cochlear synaptopathy and recreational noise exposure
What is it about?
Recreational noise exposure does not affect the potential biomarkers of cochlear synaptopathy. We specifically looked at the auditory brainstem responses, envelope following responses, audiograms measured at standard and extended high frequencies and speech intelligibility markers.
Why is it important?
For the first time, we investigated the effect of recreational noise exposure on the rectangularly amplitude modulation response, i.e. a potential biomarker of cochlear synaptopathy which is minimally affected by outer hair cell loss.
