Holistic Review for Graduate Admissions in CSD

What is it about?

This article is the first of a collection of papers that focus on holistic review and graduate admission in Communication Sciences and Disorders. It provides a core conceptual framework of the foundational concepts that define holistic review and provides an overview of why these methods should be used in the field of CSD.

Why is it important?

It's important for our field to consider longstanding beliefs about what makes a successful student and future clinician, in ways that are equitable, inclusive, and promote diversity on many dimensions. Our field has been recognized, both internally and externally, as highly non-diverse and with significant disparities in gender, and race and ethnicity, just to name two. We have to continue to challenge ourselves to recognize the past but make changes for the future. This evidence-based method is one option to consider.
