Diagnosing primary progressive aphasia in the acute hospital
What is it about?
This is about a rare clinical scenario wherein a patient who came to the hospital for acute health concerns was also noted to be dealing with chronic verbal difficulty for which she had not previously sought medical attention. An interdisciplinary approach to address her chronic verbal difficulty led to the diagnosis and initial management of a neurodegenerative disease characterized primarily by aphasia and apraxia of speech.
Why is it important?
Timely diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases is important to ameliorate patients' suffering.
