Social Communication and Language of Girls with High-Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder
What is it about?
The purpose of this study was to characterize social communication and structural language of girls with high-functioning autism spectrum disorder (ASD) (n=18) compared to girls who are typically developing (n=19). For the study, we used parent report and standardized tests.
Why is it important?
Most research related to ASD has been conducted with primarily male samples. Less is known regarding the female presentation of ASD. This is one of the first investigations in the field of speech-language pathology aimed at examining social communication and structural language in girls with high-functioning ASD.
