Challenges that SLPs in Malaysia face in the work that they do.
What is it about?
This article discusses the challenges that SLPs face when providing speech and language therapy in Malaysia and issues that need to be addressed for continued growth of this profession. While providing suggestions to SLPs on methods to overcome the challenges faced and improve their clinical practice, this article also calls upon international collaborations in overcoming these challenges.
Why is it important?
With the SLP profession in its early stages of development in Malaysia, many issues remain a dilemma for SLPs working in both the private and public sectors. Some of these issues and challenges faced by Malaysian SLPs may be familiar to SLPs in other developing countries. The challenges and concerns are described where the profession struggles yet strives to provide the best quality service in accordance to international standards.
