Which assessments are used to examine multilingual children's language abilities
What is it about?
This scoping review identified current measures used to evaluate the language abilities of multilingual preschoolers within the framework of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health– Children and Youth Version (ICF-CY; World Health Organization, 2007). A total of 325 publications were included in this review. The majority used measures that evaluated Activity with few evaluating Participation. Most measures assessed children’s semantic language skills.
Why is it important?
Understanding the assessments being used and how these relate to the ICF-CY is important because it (a) helps clinicians identify assessments they can use to meet the ICF-CY framework, and (b) it helps researchers identify gaps where tools need to be developed to meet the needs of the ICF-CY.
