What is it about?

While the majority recover quickly and fully from concussion, also known as mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), there are a significant number of individuals who experience chronic ongoing problems for months and years after injury. This study assessed the prevalence of auditory symptoms and performance deficits among those that have such ongoing post-concussion problems. We found that even in the presence of normal or near-normal hearing thresholds, the rate of auditory test performance deficits was higher than the rate of general cognitive deficits in this group of civilians. Among the constellation of post-concussion issues, auditory-related problems should be considered and assessed.
