What is it about?
Aphasia is a language disorder that occurs after damage to parts of the brain that control language. We reviewed the research literature to determine what types of aphasia treatments were referred to as 'multimodal therapy'. We found that the term 'multimodal' is used to describe very different aphasia treatments. We have suggested a new definition of 'multimodal therapy' to promote a more standardised description and classification of aphasia therapy types in the future.
