Tinnitus suppression in cochlear implant patients
What is it about?
We used an app to suppress tinnitus in cochlear implant patients.
Why is it important?
Some patients with Cochlear Implants (CI) can experience significant tinnitus and whereas electrical stimulation via the CI can be used to suppress tinnitus, the efficacy can diminish over time and there is no standard paradigm that works across a majority of patients. The use of external sound provides a non-invasive, easy to use alternative sound therapy for CI users that has been shown to work in non-CI patients with tinnitus. Thus whether external sound can be an effective alternative for CI users is important and timely.
