Reading and rate factors of assessment

What is it about?

There are two ways to read a single word, either by sight or by sounding them out. This study investigated what happens when you ask people to engage in these processes far more rapidly.

Why is it important?

This is important because it can affect the way in which we assess single word reading accuracy. Often, a profile of strengths and weaknesses is established based upon sight word and sounding out abilities. This research demonstrated that the profile can significantly change if rate is considered.
